More great Science Week adventures!
Thank you Garret for bringing in the liquid nitrogen. When following strict safety guidelines, liquid nitrogen can be lots of fun and educational.
In math today, the grade sevens continued to work on surface area of prisms, while the grade 8s were challenged to develop and use formulaes for surface area and volume of cones, spheres and pyramids.
This afternoon the students completed some grammar activities and then spent the last period preparing for the spring concert with Mrs. Angus.

Science fair projects are due tomorrow. Projects will be on display in the gym until 2:00.

Science Week has begun!!
This morning several gr. 7-8s were helpers with the 1 - 4 Science morning. All of my students were able to participate in the whole group demonstrations led by Professor P!
The first demonstration involved exothermic reactions when combining different powders, crystals and or liquids. This was done outside for safety reasons.
The second demonstration involved air pressure and how a vacuum system works. The students learned that there is no such thing as suction. We vacuumed sealed a stuffed animal and then we vacuumed sealed Molly!!

This afternoon the students were given time to work on their Science projects. Remember these are due on Wednesday.
Last period was spent outside playing capture the flag in gym class.

Our trip to the ROM today was a great experience for the students (despite four hours on the bus).

Fun, Soggy Friday


In our morning assembly the students were treated to a fun House game presented by Oliver and Bramley.
Afterwards, we had a practice written spelling bee in class. Several students did quite well on the twenty-five words.

We played a trivia game that involved doughnuts. Know one knew which one they would end up with in the end.
This afternoon, the students had an afternoon of The Arts with dance and then visual arts.

Please remember to have your child at school by 7:45 Monday for our trip to The ROM.

In Math this morning, the students continued working on Data Management created a variety of graphs including line graphs, bar graphs and pie graphs,
After  recess, students began presenting their Giver summative assignments. Great work Morgan, Ben, Garret and Alexander on the Jeopardy game.
This afternoon Mrs. Ruby had the students for Shakespeare followed by music with Mrs. Angus.

Congratulations to Morgan for receiving Prinicpal's Choice for the month of April for displaying the IB attribute of "Balanced" and attitude of "Committed".
After the assembly the students had French with Madame Villeneuve. Please be sure to read her blog.
In Math, the students worked on setting up their graphs for their Science Project and/or working on other data management.
After lunch in Health we discussed STIs. The students will be given a short assignment in the coming days.
After last recess, Mr. Hunt and Miss Cranfield taught gym. They were hoping to be outside to begin track and field but the weather was quite uncooperative.

This morning in Math, we began our transdisciplinary Data Management unit. Skills taught in this unit will be utilized for the graphic component of the Science projects. All graphs will be created using spreadsheet software. Today we reviewed Bar graphs and Line graphs.
After recess, the students had a final period to work on their Giver presentations.
This afternoon the students were given some time to work on their persuasive essays. They were reminded of the importance of correctly using MLA formatting.
After last recess, Mr. Hunt taught Visual Arts.
